Rednesday-My new things day

Het is weer Rednesday, gehost door Sue! Vandaag m'n nieuwe spulletjes, gekocht of gekregen. Ik moet wel eerlijk zeggen dat ik een beetje gesmokkeld heb, want niet alles is rood vandaag! Kijk maar eens:

Eerst de spulletjes die ik binnen heb gekregen van Zink en Zo, zoals deze schattige kleine zinken vlaggetjes, heel donkerrood. Ik heb ze gehangen aan een kaartenhanger die ik gekocht heb bij m'n zusje (Bloembinderij Ma-d'r-liefjes).
First the things I ordered at Zink en Zo, like these cute little flags, in a very dark red. I put them on my card chain I bought at the shop of my sister (Bloembinderij Ma-d'r-liefjes).

En stiekum begint het kerstgevoel te kriebelen, zeker als je zulke leuke spulletjes tegenkomt! De kleine rieten kerstklokjes komen weer bij m'n zusje vandaan.

And slowly the Christmas-feeling is coming, especially when I find lovely things like this! The little wickered Christmas bells are from my sister's shop (again!).

En Karin is zo ontzettend attent, altijd zit er wel een heel lief aardigheidje bij, zoals deze keer dit schattige hartjeshangertje. En zoals jullie vorige keer gezien hebben, pakt ze het ook nog eens prachtig in zodat het ontvangen een feestje op zich is!

And Karin is so very kind, she always puts a sweet gift in the parcel, like this cute little sink heart. As you've seen in my previous post she wraps everything so beautifully, it's a pleasure to receive it!

En deze 2 sfeervolle kaarten en het piepkleine engeltje zaten er ook nog bij! Karin, bedankt!

Een paar vogelkooien (de kleinste had ik al) en dit schattige rode krukje.

En deze had ik echt nodig (echt hoor!), een opstapkrukje voor in de keuken, om zo net bij de bovenste planken te kunnen!

And this one I really needed (I really did!), a footstool I'll use in the kitchen, so I can reach the upper shelves!

Het is moeilijk te zien misschien, maar het onderstel is heel donkerrood.

Gifts

Is dit rood of is dit rood???? De give away die ik won op het geweldige blog van Margie is gearriveerd! M'n vingers trilden toen ik het openmaakte! Ik was er helemaal zenuwachtig van!

Allemaal prachtige Cath Kidston spulletjes! En al die kleurtjes....yummie!!!! En dan die polkadotjes.... heerlijk!

Een paar geweldige theedoeken. Die met het kerststofje bewaar ik voor de kerstdagen, ga 'em natuurlijk niet gebruiken (dat is toch zonde!), maar puur ter decoratie! De rood met witte stippen deed m'n hart smelten, zoals jullie waarschijnlijk zullen begrijpen!

A few gorgeous tea towels. The one with the Christmas fabric I'll keep away till Christmas, not for using it (hey, of course not!) but just for decoration! The red and white polka dotted one did my heart melt as you probably would have guessed!

Dit schattige tasje was ik bijna gelijk al kwijt, m'n dochtertje vond 'em helemaal geweldig! Helaas mama ook! Maar we delen 'em wel hoor lieffie! En kijk, er zat ook nog een bijpassende sleutelhanger bij!

My little girl immediately fell in love with this pretty bag! Too bad, mommy loves it too! But we'll share it sweetie! And look, I got a matching keychain too!

Toen ik de enveloppe opende kwam me een heerlijke geur tegemoet, afkomstig van dit schattige hartje. Ik was (en nog steeds!) helemaal beduusd door dit prachtige pakket, Margie je bent een schat!!!!
As I opened the envelope, I smelled a lovely fragrance, coming from this sweet little heart. I was (and still am!) overwhelmed by this beautiful gift, Margie you're a real sweetheart!!!!

Van mijn schoonvader- en moeder kreeg ik deze 2 mooie, fijne hartjes met pareltjes en kraaltjes.

From my father and mother in law I got these 2 beautiful delicate beaded hearts.

Voor zulke mooie hartjes is er altijd wel weer een plekje te vinden!

New kits

Mirelle heeft het weer voor elkaar! Ze heeft opnieuw een paar geweldige pakketjes ontworpen. Ik bestelde ze bij haar webshop Atelier Sterre. Niet alleen haar winkel is superleuk, zij zelf ook! Ik ben helemaal in de stemming om te freubelen de laatste tijd! Laat die lange avonden maar komen!

Mirelle did it again! She designed another few gorgeous kits! I ordered them at her webshop Atelier Sterre. Not only her shop is lovely, so is she! I'm in the mood to craft altely!

And suddenly it's Fall....

Maar weten jullie? Het kan me helemaal niets schelen! Ik vind het eigenlijk zelfs heerlijk op dit moment! De regen valt met bakken uit de lucht, maar hier zit ik dan, in m'n knusse vernieuwde huiskamer en ik vind het zalig! Zoals beloofd de tour bij daglicht!
But you what? I don't care! Actually, I love it at this moment! The rain's falling down, but here I am, sitting in my cosy, renewed living room and I really really love it! As promised, a tour by daylight!

The floor

Zoals jullie kunnen zien, ziet het er een beetje oud en versleten uit. De vloer is wit met een verweerd effect. Helemaal goed dus voor ons, een gezin met 3 kinderen en 2 honden! Je ziet er bijna niets op!

As you can see it looks a little bit shabby. It's white, with an aged effect. Just perfect for us, a family of 3 kids and 2 dogs!


The ceiling

Maakt niet uit vanaf welke hoek je het bekijkt, het is gewoon perfect! Het geeft net die cottage-achtige touch aan ons huisje.

From every different angle it looks just perfect! It gives the right cottage touch to our home!

Het is zo lekker, om op de bank te zitten, terwijl de kaarsjes branden, en dan heerlijk tv te kijken met een breiwerkje op de pennen.

Oh en voor degenen die het vroegen: yep, de lampenkappen zijn gemaakt van een soort kippengaas. Gaaf hè!

It's so comfy, sitting on our couch, while the candles are burning, and watch the telly and knit a little.
Oh, and for the ones who asked: yep the lampshades are made of a kind of chickenwire. Great hûh!


PC-corner

Oké, ik mis nog wat hier, om precies te zijn, aan de rechterkant. Ik ben op zoek naar de perfecte spiegel ( of iets anders perfects), maar daar heb ik geen haast mee, neem er de tijd voor om hier en daar heerlijk rond te snuffelen. Maar voor zover bevalt dit hoekje me wel!

Okay, I just miss something here, to be exact, on the rightside. I'm searching for the perfect mirror (or something else that's perfect), but I'm not in a hurry for that, just take my time to sniffin' around here and there. But I like it so far!

Het perfecte plekje voor wat dierbare foto's en andere spulletjes die ik mooi vind. Behalve de krans en de schattige witte houten paardjes, is niets nieuw. Ik snuffelde en shopte een beetje rond in m'n eigen huis en zette alles wat ik leuk vond, bij elkaar.

The perfect spot for some precious pictures and other things I like. Except for the wreath and the cute white wooden horses, nothing is new. I snooped and shopped around in my own house and put everything I liked together.

De rieten lampenkapjes kreeg ik van mijn zusje (yep, die bloemiste) als een "dank je wel"-kadootje omdat ik zo nu en dan help in haar winkel. Oh, en de houten paardjes en de krans kreeg ik ook van haar. Is ze niet geweldig?!? Als je eens in de buurt ben, moet je echt eens aanwippen! Haar winkel is absoluut de moeite waard!
The wicker lampshades I got from my sister (yep, the florist one), as a "thank you"-present for helping her in her shop every now and then. Oh, and the little wooden horses and the wreath I also got from her. Isn't she the best?!? If you're in the neighbourhood you absolutely have to pop in!

En dit kleine stilleven is ook samengesteld met allerlei mooie spulletjes die ik al in huis had. Heb ik dan helemaal niet geshopt??? Hahaha, natúúrlijk wel!!!! Er was nog een ietsie pietsie geld over van het verbouwingsavontuur, dus ik vond dat ik wel wat nieuwe dingetjes verdiend had!

And this vignette is also composed with pretty things I already had in the house. Didn't I do any shopping at all??? Hahaha, of course I did!!!! There was an itsy bitsy money left from the rebuilding adventure, so I thought I deserved some new cutties!

Ik winkelde wat op het internet en ontving van de week deze prachtige pakketjes, en ik heb ook nog wat brocante geshopped, maar al deze spulletjes zal ik jullie volgende keer laten zien. (Ik denk dat deze post alweer lange genoeg is! Zijn jullie inmiddels al in slaap gevallen?) Verder won ik ook nog de super geweldige Cath Kidston give away die de lieve Margie hield op haar prachtige blog ( ik ben echt zóóó blij!), ik kijk echt uit naar het moment dat ik het pakket in ontvangst mag nemen, dat kunnen jullie je wel voorstellen denk ik! Wat een bofkont hè! En ook werd ik nog verwend door m'n schoonouders. Ze kochten een allerliefst kadootje voor onze nieuwe woonkamer. Maar ook dit komt volgende keer wel weer.

I shopped a little on the internet and received these lovely packages, and I also did some brocante shopping, but I show you my new stuff next time. (I think this post is already overloaded with pictures! Haven't you falling asleep yet?) Further on I won a part of the great Cath Kidston give away sweet Margie held on her beautiful blog ( I'm sóóó happy!!!!), I'm really looking forward to receive that package as you can imagine! Lucky girl hûh! And I was spoiled by my father and mother in law. They bought me the sweetest present for our renewed living room. But all of these things I show you next time!

Voor nu ga ik een beetje breien. Ik negeer gewoon de wanhopige schreeuw van mijn keuken om een grondige poetsbeurt, het laatste onderdeel van het huis dat nog moet. Maar ik ben niet in de stemming om schoon te maken vandaag! Ik heb van de week al de hal aangepakt, geschilderd en gepoetst. Ha als ik eenmaal aan het schilderen ben, ben ik niet meer te stoppen! Maar vandaag ben ik een beetje zat van al het schilderen en schoonmaken. Ik neem m'n zoveelste kopje thee voor vandaag en ga lekker genieten van deze knusse zondag!

For now I'm gonna knit a bit. My kitchen is screaming for some proper cleaning, the last part of the house that has to be done, but I'm not in the mood for cleaning today! I'll ignore that desperate scream! I already re-did the hallway last week. Ha, once I'm painting, no one can stop me! So today I'm a little tired of painting and cleaning. I'm gonna have my next cup of tea and enjoy this cosy Sunday!

Hahaha, ja, dat zou je bijna denken als je dit zo bekijkt! En ja, het grote werk is gedaan, nu nog de kleinere klussen zoals de computerhoek in orde maken (tjeetje, ik heb zelfs een hele tijd zonder gezeten, dat is echt erg!), en schoonmaken en poetsen en schoonmaken en poetsen! Wat een stof!
Just kiddin´! It looks almost real, if you look at these pictures! And yes, the big jobs are done, now it´s time for the smaller ones, like fixing the pc-corner (omg, I´ve been without my pc for a while, that was really horrible!), and cleaning and dusting and cleaning and dusting! My oh my what a dust everywhere!


Ja kijk maar eens goed! Want wat gebeurt hier?
Yep, take a closer look! Because what´s happening here?

Juist, de vloer is er uitgejekkerd en er is een nieuwe laag over heen gekomen. Ook hier weer een verloop van zo'n cm of 5! Dus dit was een heel karwei, maar gelukkig hebben we het toch gelijk aangepakt, zou er niet aan moeten denken om over een tijd weer de heleboel leeg te moeten halen. En mooi dat het allemaal geworden is! Ik zit gewoon elke avond te genieten! Ik wist niet dat ik zo'n heimwee in m'n eigen huis kon hebben! Want voor zo'n huismus als ik, is het echt afzien hoor, weken zonder m'n eigen spulletjes, temidden van stof en bende! Maar het was het allemaal dubbel en dwars waard!
Eigenlijk wilde ik alles pas laten zien als het af zou zijn, maar ik kon het nu toch echt niet meer voor me houden! Bij deze: a tour by candelight!

Yes, the old floor has gone and a new concrete floor was made! And, just like the ceiling, the floor had also a lapse of almost 5 cm! So it was a huge job to get it fixed, but I´m glad we´ve done it! And it all became so beautiful! Every evening I´m enjoying our new living room! I would never have thought I would be homesick in my own house! I´m such a huge titmouse, so it was really hard to be without my own little things for weeks, among all the mess. But it was worth it! Actually I wanted to show you everything when it was totally ready, but I couldn´t wait any longer! For now: a tour by candlelight!

Zucht..... wat ben ik toch blij met m´n plafonnetje!

En ook de hondjes zijn weer helemaal blij. Ook zij hadden last van een soort heimwee leek het wel, ze aten bijna niet meer. Kijk meneertje hier eens ongeneerd liggen!

DIY-Break

Sorry meiden, maar ik neem een pauze voor een aantal weken. Het is een gigantische puinhoop alom hier! Boven kunnen de kinderen amper bij hun bed komen, ik wacht vol smart op de behangers, zodat ik weer kan schoonmaken, opruimen en inrichten. Maar ze komen als het weer te slecht is voor hun buiten-schilder-klussen en tja tot nu toe is het te mooi geweest (ondanks een paar kleine regenbuitjes de afgelopen dagen).
Sorry girls, but I'm taking a break for a couple of weeks. It's a huge mess overhere and all around! Upstairs the kids hardly can reach their beds, I'm desperately waiting for the wall paperers, so I can clean, tidy up and re-decorate there. But they come when the weather is too bad for their outside painting jobs, and well, the weather has been just too good (despite a few little raindrops we've had past few days) lately.

Een kleine woonkamer update. Voordat het houtwerk er tegenaan kon, moest het plafond waterpas gemaakt worden en ik kan je zeggen, dat viel nog niet mee! Het was zo verduveld hobbelig en bobbelig!

A little livingroom update. Before the timber could be placed on the ceiling, the ceiling had to be leveled, it was so darn wobbly!

Op sommige plaatsen scheelde het meer dan 4 cm!

On some places the difference was more than 4 cms!

Maar, nadat dit klusje geklaard was, was het de beurt aan het houtwerk! En owwww... het ziet er nu al geweldig uit! Vandaag heb ik het 2x geschilderd, in totaal 4x nu. Plus de balken! Ik hoop dat die er morgen of overmorgen tegenaan gaan.

But, after that job was done, it was the timber's turn! And owwww... it looks sóóó lovely already! Today I've painted it twice, I painted it 4 times in all. Plus the beams! I hope tomorrow or the day after tomorrow they will be placed.

Maar de kinderen vinden het absoluut niet erg, integendeel! Het lijkt op kamperen in je eigen huis! We staan nog steeds in dubio of we de vloer nu wel of niet gaan vernieuwen. Ik wil het echt super graag, maar M. is nu al zat van alle troep. Dus daar is het laatste woord nog niet over gevallen. Ik bedoel, ik heb geen zin om binnen een jaar weer in de stofbende te zitten, dan nu alles maar tegelijk. De oude tegels moeten er allemaal uitgejekkerd worden en dan moet ook de vloer waterpas gemaakt worden. Ha, leuk he, zo´n oud huis! Alles is schots en scheef!

But the kids don't mind at all! It looks like camping in our own home!

We´re still in doubt whether to renew the floor or not. I want it so badly, but M. can´t stand all the mess. So we´re still arguing about that! I mean I don´t want all the dust again within a year or so. The old tiles must be pulled out and the floor must be leveled too. Ha, nice hey, an old house! Really, everything is higgledy piggledy!

Het spijt me dat ik al jullie mooie blogs niet heb bezocht, maar jullie weten nu de redenen! Ik weet niet wanneer ik weer terug ben, maar ik hoop dat het niet al te lang zal duren! En nu ga ik even languit op de bank met een heerlijk roseetje erbij. Vind wel dat ik het verdiend heb!

I´m sorry I´m not visiting all your lovely blogs, but now you know the reason! I don´t know when I´ll be back, but I hope it won´t take too long! For now, I´m gonna relax on the couch, with a glass of wine. Think I´ve earned it!

Preparing

En dit is wat ik de laatste tijd aldoor aan het doen was: het oude behang er af scheuren,

de rommel weer opruimen,

Cath Kidston voor de overloop boven, van dit behang droom ik al jaren! Ik twijfel nog steeds welke kleur te kiezen voor de andere muren. Het donkere of toch juist het lichtere groen. Hmmm.... ik denk dat de lichtere wel mooi zal staan.

Cath Kidston for the hall upstairs, I'm dreaming already for years of this wallpaper! I'm still in doubt what color to choose for the other walls to paint. The dark or the lighter green. Hmmm.... I think the lighter one would look nice.

En stoer "Onszelf"-nummer behang voor de jongens. Aqua voor Tim, rood met zwart (AZ kleuren!) voor Luuk.
And tough "Onszelf"-numbers wallpaper for the boys. Aqua's for Tim, red and black are for Luuk (the colors of his favorite footballteam!).

En naaien. Kleine gordijnen, grotere gordijnen, misschien nog een paar kussens. Maar alles erg simpel hoor, ik ben absoluut geen goede naaister!
And sewing. Little curtains, bigger curtains, maybe some cushions. But all very simple, I'm absolutely no good seamstress!



Decluttering

Ik ben al weken aan het puinruimen. Gewoon alles weg wat niet meer nodig is. Kast na kast, doos na doos, kamer na kamer. Ik wil een leeg (voor zover dat mogelijk is met 3 kinderen en mijn kringloopverslaving!) huis. Een opgeruimd huis is een opgeruimd hoofd! Alles wat ik niet meer nodig heb gaat het huis uit, zoals deze oude maxi cosy:
I'm decluttering for weeks now. Closet after closet, box after box, room after room. I want an empty (well as far that's possible with 3 kids and my thrifting addiction!) house. Everything I don't need anymore has to leave the house, just like this old maxi cosy:

Nou ja, is er toch nog iemand blij met m'n opruimwoede!

Well, at least, there's someone happy with my decluttering!

Celebrating

Gefeliciteerd lieve 12 jarige!

Happy birthday sweet 12 year old!

Geniet van je kadootjes! En m'n mannetje was vorige week donderdag jarig. Dus het was party-time in ons huis!

Enjoy your presents! And hubby celebrated his birthday last Thursday. So it was party-time at our house!


Receiving

En kijk eens wat ik gekregen heb! En het was niet eens m'n verjaardag! Een tijdje terug vroeg Marianne van Songbird's nesting of ik interesse had in een schilderijtje van een hertje met z'n moeder. Ze wist dat ik al een aantal van dit soort schilderijtjes had. En natuurlijk was m'n antwoord een luid "JA"! Maar ik had nooit zo'n enorme doos verwacht! Ze heeft me onwijs verwend!
And look what I've got! And it was not even my birthday! A while ago Marianne from Songbird's nesting asked me if I was interested in a painting of a little deer and his mother. She knew I already have a few of these paintings. And of course my answer was a loud "YES"! But I never had expected a huge box like this one! She spoiled me so much!

She made this card herself. I love it to pieces!

En alles was zo mooi ingepakt. Kijk maar eens naar deze rozet.

En zo attent om me deze oude bambi-kaarten te sturen! En al die kartonnen letters die precies onze namen vormen. Marianne, je hebt dit kado zo persoonlijk gemaakt! Ik vind het helemaal fantastisch!!!! Het lint, de oude kinderspulletjes, gewoon alles is even geweldig!
And so kind to send me all the bambi-cards! And all the chipboard pieces with all our characters. Marianne, you made this gift so personal! I love it all!!!! The ribbon, the vintage childrens things, just everything is gorgeous!

En dit is ook zo schattig! Een speldenkussentje in een echt hollands kopje! Overbodig om te zeggen dat ik erg gelukkig ben met alles!

And this is also so cute! A pincushion in a real dutch cup! Needless to say I'm very happy with all these beautiful pieces!

Shabby Saturday

En nu ben ik dus moeder van een middelbare schoolganger....zucht.... waar is dat schattige kleine ventje, zo makkelijk, zo lief....???? Waar komt die nonchalante en onverschillige puber in hemelsnaam vandaan? Van Mars? Oké, hij is nog steeds schattig hoor, maar absoluut niet zo klein meer. Dit was zijn eerste week op het Atheneum en ik denk dat ie het wel leuk vond, maar zeker weten doe ik het niet. Op alles wat ik vroeg, antwoordde hij: oké, twas wel leuk, ging wel.... Nou ja, ik veronderstel dat dat beter is dan helemaal geen antwoord, haha! De andere twee zittten alweer 2 weken op school, dus alles gaat weer z'n gewone gangetje in huize van Trappen. En jullie weten wat dat betekent: tijd om te kringlopen!

Vorige week had ik eigenlijk maar weinig tijd, maar besloot toch even de kringloop binnen te waaien. En het was alsof het was voorbestemd, daar stond de stoel! De stoel waar ik al eeuwen naar op zoek was, week na week, maar steeds niet kon vinden. En daar stond ie, gewoon bij de ingang. De deal was gauw gesloten en binnen no time stond ik weer buiten met een stoel onder m'n arm richting huiswaards met een grote grijns van oor tot oor.

And now I'm the mother of a high school boy....sigh....where's that cute little guy, so easy, so sweet....???? Where does that nonchalant and regardless adolescent come from? From Mars? Okay, he's still cute but not so little anymore. This week was his first week on high school and I think he liked it, but I don't know for sure. On all my questions he answered: okay, fine.... Well, I suppose that's better than no answer at all, hey, hey! The other two have been to school for 2 weeks now, so everything is back to normal at the van Trappen residence. And you know what that means: time for some thriftshopping!

Last week I was running out of time, but had just a few minutes to pop into the thriftstore. And it was as if it was predetermined, but there was the chair! The chair I was looking for, week after week, but never could find. And there it was, right beside the entrance. So the deal was quickly closed and I went home with a huge smile on my face!

Let eens op de details! De vorige eigenaars hadden 'em zilver geverfd, maar ik wil 'em ooit nog eens wit schilderen, wacht alleen nog op het juiste moment, haha! De bekleding is perfect, een beetje sjofel en versleten, perfect dus!

Look at the details! The previous owners had painted it silver, but I want to paint it white, I only have to find the right moment, hey, hey! The upholstery is perfect, a little shabby and worn with age, just perfect!



Vorige week zaterdag toog ik met het hele gezin naar een kofferbakmarkt hier in de buurt. En ik leerde één ding: neem nooit je hele gezin mee naar een avondkofferbakmarkt! Laat de kinderen en de vader thuis met een fles cola en een bak popcorn. Dan is iedereen gelukkig. En mijn hemel, het was zóóó groot! Kraam na kraam! Maar ik kon bijna niets vinden, er was zoveel rommel. Slechts een paar leuke dingen, zoals dit schattige handtasje.

Last Saturday I went with my family to a carboothsale, in a village nearby. And I learned one thing: never take your whole family to a night carboothsale! Leave the kids and the daddy home with a bottle of coca cola and a bowl of popcorn. So everybody will be happy. And my oh my it was sóóó huge! Booth after booth! But I hardly couln't find a thing, there was so much trash. Only a few lovely things, like this pretty purse.

So cute, this little wallet was on the inside.

En ik was opslag verliefd op dit kleine snoezige blikje! Oké, het was echt ver over m'n budget (3 euro!), maar zo onwijs schattig! Ik wist dat ik er spijt van zou krijgen als ik het niet zou kopen.

And I immedialtely fell in love with this adorable tin! Okay, it was way over my budget, but so darn cute! I knew I would regret it, if I didn't buy it.

And I found these knitted pot-holders.

Ik vind het patroontje zo leuk! En het rode randje natuurlijk!

En kijk, ze hadden ook nog een 2e paar, en ik kon niet kiezen, dus nam ik ze allebei maar!

And look, they had a second pair, and I couldn't choose, so I took them both!

En deze emaille koffiekan is m'n grote trots! Slechts 5,-- Ik moest hem gewoon wel meenemen!

And this enamel coffee pot is my pride and joy! Just 5,-- I had to take it with me!

En voor slechts 0,50 vond ik dit oude kinderboekje. Een koopje vinden jullie niet?

And for only 0,50 I found this sweet old children's book. A bargain, don't you think?

Ha, en ik ben nog bij een andere kringloop geweest van de week en daar stonden ze: deze grappige Noddy eierdopjes. Misschien herinneren jullie je nog wel dat ik al een paar van dit soort figuurtjes heb, en was zo blij dat ik deze vond, zo geheel onverwachts. En ik nam ook nog de pot met rozen mee naar huis. Hoe gelukkig kun je zijn voor amper 1,50!

Ha, and I went to another thiftstore later this week, and there they stood: these cute Noddy egg cups. Maybe you can remember I already have a few of these figures, and I was sóóó thrilled to find them, so very unexpected. I also took the container with the roses home with me.
How happy can you be for barely 1,50!

Souvenirs part 2: a bedtime story

Er was eens.... nog niet zo heel lang geleden, een aardige familie, wonend in een aardig huisje, in een aardig klein dorpje. De vrouw des huizes hield van decoreren. Zelfs op haar vakantie probeerde ze elke brocante markt af te struinen die ze maar vinden kon. Haar mannetje keek het lijdzaam aan, maar hij wist dat het haar gelukkig maakte en hij liet haar haar gang gaan. De kinderen daarentegen begrepen hun moeder, en zij vergezelden haar zelfs zo nu en dan. Zij begrepen het spel van veel kopen voor weinig.
Once upon a time.... but not so long ago, there was a nice family, living in a nice little house, in a nice little village. The woman of the house loved to decorate. Even on their holidays she wanted to snoop every brocante market she could find. Her hubby watched it patiently, but he knew it made her happy, so he let her going her own way. The kids on the other hand understood their mother, and they even came a long with her sometimes. They understood the game of purchasing a lot for less.

En de vrouw zocht en vond, onderhandelde en kocht. En ze was gelukkig. Ze vond de meest mooie spulletjes voor haar recentelijk opgeknapte slaapkamer.
And the woman was searching and finding, negotiating and buying. And she was happy. She found the most lovely things for her recently re-decorated bedroom.

Oh, deze zouden perfect staan op hun nachtkastjes. En een emaille kan, een mooie witte schaal en een paar gehaakte handschoentjes, ook dit zou er perfect bij staan.
Oh, these would be perfect looking on their night tables. And an enamal jug, a pretty white bowl and a pair of crochet gloves, they will look perfect too.

En de vrouw was wanhopig op zoek naar het perfecte slaapkamer kastje, en ze vond deze bij hetzelfde, leuke kleine winkeltje. Maar het had nog wat aankleding nodig.
And the woman was searching desperately for the perfect chest of drawers, and she found it at that same pretty little shop. But it needed some decorating.

En de vrouw zocht, gedurende haar hele vakantie, en ze vond. Ze speelde het spel van afdingen en ze hield er van. Ze was in haar nopjes. Ze vond de gehaakte sprei prachtig. Maar er was meer.

And the woman searched, during their whole vacation, and she found. She played the game of negotiating and loved it. She was in high feathers. She loved the crochet bedcover. But there was more.

Een crèmekleurige kan en bijpassend kammenbakje....
A creamy jug and matching box for combs....

.... meer crèmekleurige kannetjes en een bijpassend zeepbakje. En zonder het te verwachten vond ze de oplossing voor haar make-up-en-aanverwante-artikelen-probleem: dit oude, ietwat vervallen kleine kastje.

.... more creamy jugs and a matching stone soap box. And without expecting it, she found the solution for her make up-and-other-stuff-storage-problem: this old, shabby little cabinet.

Oké, de spiegel had ze niet echt nodig, maar hij was zo mooi en het kostte bijna niets. De grote witte spiegel was het allereerste verjaardagskado dat zij van haar liefhebbende mannetje kreeg. Ze vond hem nog steeds prachtig, ze schilderde hem alleen wit (natuurlijk!).

Okay, the mirror she actually didn't need, but it was so pretty and it costed hardly nothing. The huge white mirror was the first birthday present she got from her beloved hubby. She still loved it, she only painted it white (of course!).

Ze werd opslag verliefd op deze oude lijst met een aandoenlijke foto van een peuter. En het stond allemaal zo mooi. De vrouw was gelukkig, de man hield van z'n vrouw en was dus ook gelukkig (Dat hoopte ze dan toch tenminste!)
Maar als jullie nu denken dat het sprookje is afgelopen dan hebben jullie het mis. Want er komen ook nog een paar feeën voor in dit verhaal. Ze maakten de vrouw warm van hart, zij overweldigden de vrouw met hun gulheid en onbaatzuchtigheid.
She fell in love with this old frame with the toucing picture of a toddler. And it looked all so nice. The woman was happy, the man loved his wife so he was happy too. (Well, at least she hoped so!)
And if you think this was the end of the happy bedtime story, you're wrong! Cause there are also a few very lovely fairy's in this story. They made the woman warm at heart, they overwhelmed her with their generosity and selflessness.

De eerste fee stuurde haar een doosje met deze schattige Pieter Konijn boekjes. Zij had ze niet meer nodig en dacht dat de vrouw ze wel kon gebruiken, voor één van haar knutselprojektjes.

Deze fee heette Margriet, en de vrouw schreef haar om haar hartelijk te bedanken en om haar te vertellen hoe ontzettend leuk ze deze boekjes vond.
The first fairy sended her a box with these lovely Peter Rabbit-storybooks. She didn't need them anymore, and she tought the woman could use them, for some crafty projekts.

This fairy was called Margriet, and the woman wrote her to thank her very much and to tell her how much she loved the little books.

Je moet gewoon wel houden van deze schattige plaatjes en lieve verhaaltjes!

De tweede fee heette Maureen. Zij stuurde de vrouw een enorme doos. De vrouw was totaal overdonderd en zij opende de doos met trillende vingers. De verpakking was al zo mooi, de kaart echt prachtig.

The second fairy was called Maureen. She sended the woman a huge box. The woman was flabbergasted and she opened the box with trembling fingers. The wrapping was so lovely, the card so beautiful.

En kijk, dit kwam er uit: een paar glazen kommetjes met appeltjes, zij wist dat de vrouw dit helemaal geweldig zou vinden, want de vrouw verzamelde tenslotte appel-dingen, een rood met witte stippen kaart, gemaakt door haar talentvolle feeëndochter Judith en 3 heerlijke woonbladen.

And look, this came out: a few bowls decorated with apples, she knew woman would love them, cause the woman collected apple-things at last, a polka dotted card made by her talented fairy-daughter Judith and 3 yummie home-decorating-magazines.

De vrouw was echt superblij met deze bladen, en alhoewel het geschreven was in een vreemde taal (Fins?), keek ze naar de foto's keer op keer. En ze kwijlde. De taal van de woondecoratie is hetzelfde als de taal der liefde. Je hoeft het niet te spreken om het te kunnen begrijpen.
The woman was thrilled with these magazines, although it was written in a foreign language (Finnish?), she looked at the pictures over and over again. And she was drooling. The language of homedecorating is like the language of love, you don't have to speak it to understand.

Zucht.... de vrouw vond deze zóóó geweldig.....
Sigh.... the woman found these sóóó pretty....

.... en ze voegde ze met zorg en liefde toe aan haar kleine, maar groeiende collectie van appel-dingen.

.... and she added them with care and love to her little, but growing collection of apple-things.

En de vrouw keek vol liefde naar haar vrolijk en gezellige keukenkast.

En ze leefde nog lang en gelukkig....
